There is a new hotel in town. And take it from us, it is the new big boy of town. A Hotel that’s creating quite the buzz in Kampala. Slay Queens have not discovered it yet, luckily. But the few individuals with class have.
Latitude 0 degrees hotel seats on top of the Makindye Kizungu Hill. It doesn’t have sign posts yet, but it’s already getting clients. The team at The Urbanite had a tour of the new hotel and there are a number of things that stood out for us.
The first thing that strikes you at the entrance is their décor. They are not trying to be shimmery. They are not trying to be new. They are not trying to impress you with elegance. Yet they manage to achieve that, and more. From the wooden disc chandelier in the lobby, to the antique wood strewn all over the property in the form of gigantic doors and tables and side boards and wall mountings. You can tell from the very deep art pieces that the décor was a long process. They clearly took their time.
According to their Pr and Marketing Head, Faith Ainembabazi, the décor team took over two years traversing different parts of Africa to achieve what they had.
“The décor is a combination of different cultures and different stories from across Africa and beyond. We pride in being an Eco Friendly Hotel that believes in recycling, refurbishing art that was already made as opposed to making new art, in order to preserve the environment. While building this place, we didn’t tamper with the trees here. Our center tree, especially, as you can see, had the buildings built around it,” Faith explained.
For an African, the continental breakfast with fruits and cereal and cheese and ghee, among other assortments, is quite the baffle. But you have got to evolve. They have 3 dinning areas, and 3 kitchens. They have the artsy chefs, who whip meals with such passion and present it like it’s king’s dish. They have the normal two kitchens with normal continental cuisine. If the breakfast we tasted of sausages, beans, eggs and bacon is used as a basis, the food is great.
They have a swimming pool right were the view of Kampala is. Imagine swimming and being able to take in such a view.
Massage and Spa
The spa was normal, but what stood out for us was the fact that individuals can book private sessions, and how the spa area has a very cozy but large balcony area that has a view of the swimming pool and Kampala.
The View is it’s biggest selling point. From many of it’s chilling zones, one can breathe in Kampala. There is the Lake Victoria view as well, if you didn’t know.
These and more are the reason Kampala is now crazy about Makindye’s darling Hotel.
